What should be the lighting in the bathroom
How to choose the best lighting for your bathroom, taking
into account the types of lighting, fixtures and layout? When it comes to
indoor lighting, the bathroom seems to be ignored compared to the rest of our
homes. Most people pay special attention to the kitchen, living room and
bedroom, but forget that lighting in the bathroom is just as important. One of
the most popular mistakes is placing a single light fixture that you can rely
on to illuminate the entire bathroom, the mirror, and even if there is one, and
the dressing table.
Better bathroom lighting should help create a place to relax
and recharge. However, we start and end our days in the bathroom.
What type of lighting is best for the bathroom?
First, the lighting in the bathroom should be sufficient.
There are places where it should be stronger, such as above the mirror or
dressing table, which are used for makeup. The remaining lighting should give
the room a general mood.
What should be the lighting above the dressing table?
Given the specific task they perform, these fixtures are
more difficult to choose. First of all, they should illuminate the head and
face. The most common mistake people make is to place the built-in ceiling
lights directly on the mirror. They cast shadows on the face, making it
difficult for daily grooming rituals, including makeup. Vertical lamps and
applicators installed on both sides of the mirror are best suited to cast an
even light on the face.
But given the size and location of some mirrors, side lamps
may not be practical. If you still need to put the lamp on the mirror, then it
should be at least 150 watts, so that the light falls evenly on the face and
hair.
What should be the lighting in the shower?
The shower is another part of the bathroom where good
lighting is required. Small bathrooms that also have a clear glass door may not
need additional lighting. Otherwise, however, the best choice is built-in
lighting with glass lenses. Such built-in lamps are a good solution above the
bathroom or toilet.
General lighting in the bathroom
This type of lighting serves as a substitute for natural
light. It is most often provided by a single central lamp installed in the
middle of the ceiling. It can also be quite creative, such as a pendant light
or chandelier. If you choose one, you should consider it with the sink, tiles,
and the rest of the furniture. The risk is not to overdo it with accents.
Accents and built-in lighting
If your bathroom has accents, such as a special type of
tile, a painting, or a small corner with green plants, then they should be
highlighted, and lighting is the best way to do this. You can install built-in
lighting that illuminates your accents at an angle. However, if, as mentioned
above, you choose a chandelier for basic lighting, then it will serve as an
accent for you, and the need for others is not urgent.
How to choose the right light bulbs for lighting in the
bathroom?
Best of all, it brightens the skin with white light. Halogen
bulbs define the gold standard. The low-voltage varieties with a built-in
transformer that converts 120 volts to 12 volts are particularly compact, and
the smaller bulb gives a nice sparkling effect. Halogen bulbs cost a few
dollars more than standard incandescent bulbs, but can last up to three times
longer. Many of them have screw bases and are suitable for most lighting
fixtures. The latest compact fluorescent lamps also provide good color
reproduction and are 10 times more efficient than conventional incandescent
lamps.
Turn on the dimmed lighting
Dimmed lights can provide absolute control over
the lighting and, consequently, the mood of the room. If you have a very small
bathroom, you can choose a dimmed light for the main one and only add
additional lighting in the shower and mirror. Note that some models of dim
lamps buzz when the wire vibrates. Switching to a light bulb with a smaller
watt (which has a smaller filament) should reduce or even eliminate the noise.
